Who Are Serve Partnerships?
Serve Partnerships Unlimited (SPU) is a para-church ministry whose purpose is "Uniting the Church to Transform the Community." Each community-based ministry is known as a "partnership" and those who serve are known as "partners.” In most cases, each partnership is identified by the name “Serve” and the name of the city/town.
The SPU partnership begins with a local church who commits to be the "host" or "sponsor" church in that community. Members from this church are then encouraged to contact other local Christian churches and share the vision with them. A true sense of "partnership" develops when churches and other ministries begin to come alongside the host or sponsor church to partner in reaching the community together.
Partnerships will through a common ministry tool such as an event that begins to facilitate relationships in the community. The partners share in the development of whatever ministry that takes place thereby giving ownership to all partners involved. Examples would be “Adopt-a-Family Ministries” or a Serve Partnership Week.
In some cases, the partners will have a larger vision for the potential of their partnership. The partners may forsee a day when their partnership will serve their community 365 days a year, with each of the partner churches selecting one week, or several weeks in which their church will be "on call" to serve the needs of the community in any way possible.
